From what I understand, Zoe's Tale is a retelling of The Last Colony, the third book in his Old Man's War trilogy*. John Scalzi's a hell of a writer and a hell of a smartass, and Zoe's Tale, his debut young adult novel, features one of the most likable, most smart-assy protagonists I've ever had the pleasure of sharing 330 pages with.
